Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

This year Chinese New Year is on Friday 16th February 2018 and it is the year of the Dog.

As a family we love Chinese food and have always had a Chinese New Year meal. It is fun, interactive and depending when it falls, if we are hosting friends, we will have a Chinese-themed meal.

Being winter I usually make a chicken or crab and sweet corn soup, chicken satay with stir fried noodles or rice and ice cream for dessert. I always serve Jasmine tea, throughout the meal as my friend says it keeps the Ying and the Yang in balance. For fun and if I find them, everyone has a  fortune cookie on their place setting. My satay sauce is quick and easy and the whole dish can be made in minutes satay sauce . I’ll add a starter of prawn crackers and spring rolls which is a real weekday treat and that will be our celebration.

If you don’t have time to do any cooking, you can buy prawn crackers, a mixed selection of Chinese starters, half a crispy duck with hoisin sauce and enjoy a fuss-free Chinese New Year.

Happy New Year
