Festive Season Canapés Recipes and Ideas

I love canapés, they are morsels of deliciousness that make your friends and family feel spoilt.

Over the years I have come up with quick and easy recipes that are cost effective, taste delicious, and make your guests feel spoilt. But most importantly, for you the memory maker, they take no time to prepare.

Here are a few of my favourite canapé recipes and ideas, that I love and make on repeat:

Quick & Easy Mushroom Pâté

This pâté is incredibly easy and I have a vegan friend’s option too.

Crab Mango Coriander Starter

I serve this Crab and Mango Coriander on rounds of cucumber, served in a bowl surrounded by crackers for a buffet-style party, or to elevate the platters I spoon a little of the mixture into canapé cups — my favourites are Rahms Mini Croustades

I have made a bigger bowl and served it as a dip with fresh slices or bread and crackers.

For vegans and vegetarians, omit the crab and grate in firm tofu.

Easy Filo Spinach Pie

Ok, a big spinach pie cannot be classed as a canapé. But if you make small pies by using cupcake tins and two sheets of buttered filo squares, mimic the recipe and fold small spinach pies. You can elevate the top with a sprinkling of sesame seeds.

They will be loved by everyone.

For vegans, omit the eggs and add in a few chopped and sautéed leeks.

Parmesan and Smoked Cheese Gougères

Gougères — savoury smoked cheese and Parmesan puffs — are so quick to make, they can be stored for 3 days in an airtight container or frozen. Just before serving bake at 180 degrees C for 5-10 minutes or until crispy, serve and eat straight away. They are delicious.

Easy No Cook Canapé Recipes

Now, if you are really pushed for time this is the idea for you.

Three No Cook Quick Canapés:

Quick Smoked Salmon Pâté (click on the link for the recipe) placed in Swedish Croustades and on cucumber rounds, garnished with freshly chopped chives.
Peppadew & Feta Cheese Canapé — using one jar of peppadew peppers and about 3/4 of a block of feta cheese (this may depend on the size of the peppadews in the jar). Cut the feta into small cubes and press them gently into the centre of the peppadews. Place the peppadews feta side down, so the canapés look like little baubles or Santa’s hats. For vegans, add a vegan cheese to the peppadews.
Caprese Salad Canapé — Insert a toothpick into half a cherry tomato cut side down, skewer half a bocconcino (baby mozzarella ball) on top of the cherry tomato. Finish the canapé off by adding a small basil leaf to the top. To add a little bit of ‘sparkle’ scatter pomegranate seeds over the rocket leaves of the wreath. When the pomegranate seeds catch the light, they look like glistening lights. For vegans use a vegan cheese.

Enjoy gathering your friends and family making these easy canapés and ideas.
