Innocent Smoothie Miniature Christmas Hat Knitting Pattern Free

These are such cute, quick knits, and the pattern originally came from a charity drive that Innocent Smoothies ran annually. They no longer distribute the hats, but they still offer wonderful and adventurous free knitting patterns if you fancy trying a few—have a look at their site: Innocent Smoothie Knitting Patterns – Free.

These little hats knit up quickly and make lovely additions to Christmas stockings. I knit them to combat osteoarthritis. I once heard that knitters will never get arthritis, and I thought it was just an old adage. But here I am, knitting with fingers that won’t bend and a thumb joint that has decided to part company with its lower joint! Knitting every evening while watching TV has genuinely given me more flexibility in my hands. So, cheers to old adages.

Top Tips

  • If you’re gifting the hats individually, you can puff them out with a few cotton balls or a little toy stuffing to plump them up.

  • They’re a fun way to teach beginners how to knit something other than a scarf.

  • This pattern is perfect for using up leftover wool.

Gifting Ideas

  • They make fabulous festive table name-place holders. Simply pop one on a little piece of card and write your guests’ names.

  • They’re a unique and charming table gift for friends and family to take home.

  • Tie them around glasses as a cute glass charm.

  • They also make adorable tree decorations—just loop ribbon around the pom-pom or sew a loop through the base if you’re not adding a pom-pom.

I used leftover wool and size 4 or 5 needles, depending on the yarn. Simply match your needles to whatever wool you have at home.
