Shots
We had a friend’s daughter first Holy Communion on Sunday, not a natural setting to discover a new shot, but my friend’s brother and father came across from Poland to celebrate and introduced us to this shot. I have always loved shots (B52’s were my favourites in the 90’s) and this Wild Dog shot has been added to my list of favourites.
The unusual combination of three simple ingredients, made for a very memorable congratulations drink. Vodka is the drink you celebrate with in Poland and Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka is amazing, this is what was used and it is my vodka of choice for mixing cocktails. If you can’t get hold of this brand, it does work well with any vodka you have indoors. The Malina Raspberry Cordial is a very thick Ribena-like syrup, that you would mix up for yourself or children as a summer cordial and the dark horse Tabasco.
The vodka is tamed by the raspberry cordial and the tabasco cuts through the sweetness of the cordial to leave you with a warm but not blow your head off after taste. The sweetness of the cordial and the heat of the tabasco seem to calm the effect of vodka. Mateusz (my friends brother) offered a round of these Wild Dogs every hour or so for those not driving, so they are not the line them up and down them shots, but more a leisurely celebrate the occasion with a little fun shot. Thank you Mateusz for introducing us to this drink and sharing your recipe and method. When you see the Wild Dogs prepared you would think the raspberry would be poured into the glasses first, but adding the vodka to the bottom, then the raspberry cordial, the two liquids combine beautifully with no assistance. I have already introduced these Wild Dog shots to friends at a recent birthday party and can’t wait to share them with who ever visits us for a meal and isn’t driving.
