Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon ginger, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 125ml/½ cup hoisin sauce
- 4 Tablspoons soya sauce
- 2 Tablspoons honey
- 4 Tablspoons Japanese rice vinegar or white wine vinegar
- 125ml/1/2 cup water
- 300g/1 tin cannellini beans, rinsed
- 400g/1 tin red kidney beans, rinsed
- 1 chopped red chilli, if desired
- Handful of chopped coriander to serve
- Optional for a thicker sauce
- Dilute 1 Tablespoon of cornflour in 4 Tablespoons of water
Method
- Add all the ingredients into a medium saucepan, simmer on low, stirring often for 5-10 minutes or until the beans have warmed through.
- If you would prefer a thicker sauce, add the diluted cornflour and cook for a further 3 minutes stirring continuously, until the sauce has thickened.
- Serve as bowl food topped with the optional chopped chilli and corriander, over a baked potato, noodles or on toast.
Tips
Vegans can substitute the honey for golden or maple syrup.
The recipe can easily be doubled or tripled, for a large crowd.
