How To Make Salted Caramel Sauce

This is a quick and easy recipe for you to make your own Salted Caramel Sauce. Although when you read the recipe’s ingredients you will flinch, remind yourself that you don’t eat this sauce often and once in a while you do deserve a very sweet treat.

It is really easy to make Caramel and Salted Caramel Sauce all you have to do is boil 4 ingredients together and stir in or sprinkle the salt onto your chosen dessert.

A little random but relevant idea:

I met a lovely, tall and very slim lady at Chartwell House this week (relevance will become apparent as the next few words unfold) and she told me that she spreads any left over Salted Caramel Sauce onto her morning toast! So if by any chance there is any sauce leftover, you know what to do with it. Otherwise it is also delicious served with pancakes or poured over ice cream.

Recipe type: Sauces & Dressings
Cuisine: British
Servings: 4-6
Ingredients
  • 75g butter
  • 115g soft brown sugar
  • 40ml golden syrup
  • 90ml double cream
  • salt to taste
Method
  1. In a pot add and stir all the ingredients together over a low heat, until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Simmer, stirring continuously for 5 minutes.
  3. Serve the sauce warm, sprinkling the salt onto each individual portion you are serving the sauce with or mix the salt into your sauce if you prefer.
Tips
By keeping the salt separate to the sauce, you can offer your guests the choice of Caramel Sauce or Salted Caramel Sauce.
This recipe makes a thin pouring sauce if served warm from the pot. If cooled and refrigerated for a few hours or overnight the sauce thicken to a thick set honey consistency.
